Welcome to Pontiac Lake State Recreation Area in Waterford Township, Michigan! This moderate-level guided and instructional backpacking expedition explores Pontiac Lake's primary hiking trail - a park favorite for non-mountain biking recreation. Starting from the main trailhead, this out-and-back cuts through the heart of Pontiac Lake's best geographic features: dense marshlands, mature forests, spacious grassland prairies, dramatic moraine hills, and, naturally, panoramic views of Pontiac Lake. Perfect for backpackers training for their first overnight trip, this moderate-level day trip includes instruction on how to properly plan for a backpacking trip, tips on packing your backpack, and practical field training on proper form and pacing - all while exploring Pontiac Lake's central trail. NO REFUNDS will be issued in the event of (i) cancellation within 24 hours prior to the start time of a trip, (ii) a guest does not attend the trip, or (iii) a guest arrives later than 15 minutes after the scheduled start time for a trip.
